    Cradles

Does anyone know of any good books for ideas on making and building storage/hauling cradles for a 21'boat?

I've never seen the subject addressed in any book and can't remember seeing any articles on the subject. What kind of a boat do you need to cradle?

WHOOEEEE! Speaking of saddles. You do good work. Still a market for side saddles, eh?

Just bought a Fenwick Williams Designed Catboat, built in the 60's.Needs a new cradle to haul it on a trailer and also store it in for the winter.I found a couple of articles in back issues of WB,which I ordered.Like to build a cradle to last, from Hemlock and metal.
Thanks for thoughts on my Saddle site.

I ordered that WB back issue with the cradles in it some time ago. As I remember there was a lot of pics of different styles found throught the years. Some with wheels, some that looked like farm implements, some that where just stationary setups. What there wasn't, if me recollection is correct, was any plans on how-to build any of the styles pictured.

It was more of a who's who of cradles.

But then again my recollection could be off, I'll dig it out and give it a thumb through.

Ok, dug it out - - 8 pages, 2nd to last has a ref chart of weight to size dimenstion, etc.... for cradles and the last is similar for trailers sans dimension chart. Lots of line drawings so you can see the different styles, and, yes, farm implenets and a who's who of older trailers.

        WB March/April 1986, Number 69.

Also an article on building your own Wood Plane as in made of Wood to plane Wood.

Good retrospect series of articles on Nobank Lobsterboats.

And my fav WB read, the Free boat classified section: a 25' 1947 ChrisCraft, a 47' replica of the African Queen built in 1910 (wonder where she is today), and a 22' open mahogoney and oak skiff.
