Boy we had a nice day today. So we packed up a picnic and headed out to find a deserted island with a decent beach.

Found one...

Didya go for a swim?

No, but kids seem to be able to swim in that water. I think their little hearts can take it much better than older folks. I've waded in it before, and once ya numb up, it ain't so bad. :)

Thanks,

I let PhotoShop Elements do it's 'auto-fix everything' deal, then I hit it with just a bit more saturation. Maybe a bit too much. :)

The others are just 'auto-fix everything.' Plus some horizon straightening.

Oh, and I cloned out an extra orange poly-line in the first picture. If ya zoom in near the bow door, you might notice my amateur work.

Very nice shots, Brian.
Me too......And even the old goats can swim and spend some time in it, too. :p I do need to work on the trim of my sails. ;)
Sorry but its wood. I can only afford wood.

Lovely, Brian! Great pics and a great spot.

How about some details on the boat? It looks like it'd make a perfect all-weather bay workboat for hauling pots, clamming, Eel Grass harvesting and beach combing.

Size and draft?
Power?
What's the enclosure consist of?
Is the bow ramp manual or remote?

Donn,

It was made locally. We have several aluminum boat builders in town. No wood builders, unfortunately.

She's 22ft long, kinda narrow, around 7.5ft beam. Plenty of 'vee' in the hull to knock down minor chop, but she's no deep vee'd ocean runner for sure. Draws about a foot with the engine trimmed up.

We just repowered to the newer Suzuki 175hp four stroke. Cruises at 4200rpms, 30mph, and burns about 8gph doing that. Crank it up to max 6000rpms (due to a nice large 16inch prop) and she goes 40mph and burns about 13gph. Needless to say, not much call for running that fast. :)

Not much in the 'cabin' except a bench seat with storage, controls, vhf, gps, and a depth sounder.

Oh... new pot hauler engine...

The bow ramp is manual. There is a trailer winch and strap mounted up front, with the strap attached to the door, if someone really needed the help. But I usually just pull it up with the bow line.

Nice pics, Brian. I'm looking forward to taking a few of my own over the next few months.

Thanks, Brian.

It looks like the aft 2/3rds of the cabin enclosure is fabric. Is that right?

Is the kicker outboard for safety, or trolling, or both?

It looks like it could be planed with a much smaller engine. Is it heavier than it appears?

That seems like a lot of fuel Brian? I'm not sure of the consumption of my small boat (40hp 2 stroke Suzuki) - but I measured Grantala (50' 25 ton) at 18 litres (approx 4.5US gallons) to cover a 13 nautical mile trip to the slip once - with a dirty bottom.

Ghost bridge

The two Bluewater bridges connecting Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and Port Huron, Michigan, USA.
The St. Clair river, in that area, has a 7 knot current and is one of the best drift dives that I've been on., especially when the 1000' lake freighters are above you.

Did you have a polarizing filter on your camera?

BrianW
05-26-2007, 12:33 AM
No, but I'd like to buy a couple filters in the future. I ran the images thru Photoshop Elements, on the auto-fix setting only, except I enhanced the saturation on the last picture a bit more.
