Watched a fascinating National Film board documentary about Creole Louisiana, last night. Recommended, if you can find it.

Sorry, don't care too much for Zydeco. I'm not putting down the music.... it's just not my cuppa.

I'm not a big fan of commercial Zydeco, but this old-time Creole stuff is raw and soulful...tears a hole in your heart.
The French these old black guys speak sounds strangely familiar to me and foreign at the same. They say "icitte" for "ici," as in Quebec joual, pronounce "qui" as "qua" ("y en a qu'a charre") and throw in odd English words ("a ce temps la, ils etaient gone").
Their history is pretty amazing, too.
