If I were to buy natural #10 duck canvas for covering a canoe, does the fabric have to be pre-shrunk before I use it. The ad for the canvas says that it shrinks 10 to 15%. Thanks.

John:

I have used pre-shrunk treated canvas and unleaded filler, and non-treated and non-pre-shrunk canvas and leaded filler frequently and I haven't noticed a shrinking problem or difference between the two.

I do think I can get the leaded filler to go on smoother.

The WCHA website is back up. There is a forum there where the pros will put in their 2 cents and there are a couple of lists of places to buy filler and treated or untreated canvas. There are also some filler recipes if you want to mix your own.

Let us know how you make out.
