Anyone know what size is typical for a 15' ? I don't have the oar yet but would assume ~10'. Boat is a Norse pram with two sets of rowlocks. I'm finishing up and need to cut but can't dig up a reference to appropriate size. Should the oar have leather? Button? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I scribed an arc just a little larger in adius than the oar, so that the oar would not bind when moved from side to side.

The notch has a leather. The oars will, too, eventually.

Thanks Moby. I get the need for waggle room but would not want the oar to slip through when landing a lunker (fishful thinking). Are collars a standard diameter? Would 2" be about right? Did you see the notch on the christmas wherry rowed standing by Walt Simmons in our sponsers new publication Small Boats? A thing of beauty. And how about those oarlocks?
