You meet a lot of interesting characters in this world of wooden boats. I was recently given the name of a transporter to see about getting Black Spirit moved from Brooklin, ME to Kingsport, TN. The phone conversation lasted about 20 minutes and went something like this.

Hello
Hi! This is David in Kingsport, Tennessee.
How are ya?
Good, You?
Not too bad.
Your name was given to me from a friend who's boat you moved a while back
Yep
You moved her Concordia into a warehouse in St Augustine
Yep, I remember that boat
(Claudia in the background "Tell him it was for the voluptuous red head")
It was for a voluptuous redhead
Yep, I remember that boat, nice boat. Where is the boat you want to move
Well, it's in Brooklin, ME and I want to bring it to Tennessee
Hmmm, I don't go up there
How's that boat coming along?
Real Good, She is making some great progress and it is looking great!
Where is that boat you want to move?
Brooklin, ME
Pretty country. I don't go up there.
Is there somebody you might recommend?
Hmm, I can't think of any haulers with a hydraulic trailer like mine, Where's it going?
Kingsport Tennessee, near the Virginia Line
Pretty Country too, I don't go up there.
How big is it?
33', 8' beam, 'bout 13000 pounds
Humm, not over sized, I still have a house up in Mass, but I usually take my pick up. Ever been to White Pine TN, I was just up there shootin Clays.
Oh Yeah, White Pine is about an hour from us
Pretty country up there.
How soon do ya need it?
No real hurry, maybe in the next month or so.
Maybe I can find an undersized load heading up and get yours coming back,
I have driven Belfast, ME to Kingsport, lets round it up to 1100 miles add another 60 to Brooklin, lets round it to 1200 miles give or take.
Not a bad trip, have you gotten any quotes?
(trying to be humorous) Well one fella told me a buck and a half
A buck and a half a mile, that's not bad
No, a buck and a half for the whole trip
Hmmm,… probably gonna cost a little more than that (and he laughs)
Let me see if I can round up something heading that way. Give me a call if you ever want to chat…
I really appreciate you looking into it. Keep me posted.
Will do, give me your name and number
Bye
Bye

It was a great conversation. Lasted about 20 minutes. Long gaps in the conversation from time to time. You could hear the wheels "a turnin"
