I just finished 3 lovely lignum vitae cheek blocks for reeffing pendant blocks on my 34' loa pilot cutter.

The problem is, I haven't worked with lignum vitae before.
what is the best way to fasten them to the boom. The boom is hollow and is flat where they will be attached.

I was thinking doing four oval head screws through each corner of the block, and the axle pin going through the block and into the boom.

Is this enough to hold them inplace? should I through bolt them?

any thoughts will help.

As they will be taking a sheer load, screws should suffice. Consider, however, that a couple of screws in line (or slightly offset so they aren't on the same grain) may be better than four at the corners. The problem will be to avoid cracking the cheek when you screw them down.
