i'm casting the gudgeons and pintles using the lost wax method for a bronze casting class. its quite fun to make the wax model. anyways, i plan to cast other parts such as the stemhead fittings and cranse iron. its common to use aluminum bronze or mag. bronze for the higher strength. but i can only use silicon bronze. my question is can i use silicon bronze if i increase the thickness of these hardware to compensate for the weaker strength bronze ?
intuitively, it should work since the section area will be increased, therefore able to hold the required psi. i plan to increase the thickness approx. 25%
the only drawback i see is that it will be larger or bulkier.
thanks for your comments.
