My two brothers, dad, and I have gone in on a 1965 Modified H-28 built by Far East (Hull #80).
We had a survey done and are well on our way to getting her back in the water but a lot of work remains as well.
Older brother has been replacing a few planks. Dad is figuring out if we should rebuild the Atomic 4 ourselves or buy a rebuilt one. I'm working on replacing all of the rigging (standing and running).
I am a little worried about getting the rigging puzzle back the way it was. I hope my cryptic labeling and diagrams will pay-off.
Questions:
1) There is an area of the bilge below the engine that is not accessable when the engine is installed. This area is actually lower than the bilge pump so there is always 4 or 5 inches of water between these two ribs. Should we worry about it? Should we try to fill it with something so it empties all the way out? It appears as though someone slapped some tar in there at one point.
2) The main and mizzen shrouds were lashed to the spreaders with tape and wire. I have always counted on tension to hold the shroud in the grove. Should I put it back the way it was?
That is all for now. I am sure I'll will have a few more when I get back from the boat yard.
