for those with experience does any of this article sound accurate?

Faced with an ever-more ruthless insurgency in Baghdad - despite President George Bush's "surge" in troops - US forces in the city are now planning a massive and highly controversial counter-insurgency operation that will seal off vast areas of the city, enclosing whole neighbourhoods with barricades and allowing only Iraqis with newly issued ID cards to enter.

An urban Dien Bien Phu.

....too little...too late......bush is gonna have to go down in history as the idiot that started an unnecessary war, mismanaged it, and bankrupted the country, financially and morally in the process. His generals and advisors told him so at the outset. The opportunity to eliminate Saddam was there in '91 and they declined.

I seriously doubt the net result would have been much different in '91 as it is today.

That seems to be the general opinion among the cognoscenti. ;)

You break it, you own it, monkey boy.

Norman is right that we gave them a chance but now the administration has to keep it together until their time is up in two years.

Then, if the new people decide to pull out, Bush and Patreas can claim that they had it won. Every now and then I hear someone say that we could have "won" in Vietnam if we had just stayed the course a little longer because we were close to victory when we quit.

Works great so long as you're willing to man checkpoints ad infinitum.
