Looks like a 'sprung'(?) plank...

Best boat 'back end' picture I had handy, even if it's not from astern.

oh yeah,,it's the way the water flows around it and floats it. You got it BrianW. There's some comfort in that backside.

There are some kayaks that tell you something else is happening than laminar flow. The back of a Mariner is the chunkiest thing,,but it works when you lean, burbles a lot with surf. The Merganser I'm finishing manages to pull off a lot of usable volume with bent plywood 'back there'. Current Designs Caribou (I forget the designer) started as plywood and has one of the nicer ends for simple flat panel construction.

You take good pictures Brian

I was in Geelong a few weeks back and spotted this Fife at a show the R.G.Y.C. was putting on. Not a bad "booty" to say the least!

Brian, that is one hell-for-stout boat. Some serious sterngear protection goin' on, too. Izzit a fishin' boat? If so, what kinda gear?

Speaking of shapely sterns, I rubbed my hands over this one quite a bit. She's a bit broad in the stern, but not so much when compared to others of her kind, and I always liked a bottom that had a bit of tumblehome carried up to the waist.

Sorry Emma, I found her sitting in an industrial area, and don't know anything about her. I'd did mention it to some of my co-workers who are locals, but we were joking that it would make a good troller, as more and more Kings (salmon) are showing up this far north.

Most boats around here don't have that much draft, it's fairly shallow in these parts.

I like that first boat, Brian. She looks like she means business. A little TLC and a nice second mortgage and someone would have themselves a BOAT, if you get my meaning?
