View Full Version : Trailer axel question
Hi Folks,
The surge break system on my boat trailer has seen better days and I think that it would be easer to replace it then try to overhaul it. The trailer is made by the Tee Nee Company (I didn’t make this up) and they are no longer in business. My question, is a boat trailer axel and breaking system different then a utility trailer axel.

Yes and no.
Yes, well-made boat trailers use axle and braking components that don't immediately dissolve in saltwater.
but then, I've seen plenty of trailers that weren't so well-made, so no. ;)
Others may have other experiences.

In researching around, I noticed a comment that trailer brakes need to be adjusted, that they have no self adjusters. This makes sense because self-adjusters work backing-up, and the surge brake doesn't work backing up. _Maybe_the least expensive solution is a tweak or two on the adjuster nuts at the wheels??
you are not the only one out there with a TeeNee trailer, Mine was born in 73'

Here's how to adjust brakes (http://www.mobilexhibit.com/brakes.html) .
A real brake adjuster tool will make your life easier, but any stiff/thin flat metal bar will work.
A real tool looks like this (http://www.tools-plus.com/lis50700.html)
as you can see they are cheap and available at auto parts places, the local NAPA fersure would have one.
