They try, Jamie.....sorta recal an incident something like this.....
It was just after the first of the year...1998-99....
Boat tied up at end of E dock at Zahnizers in Solomons Island......
awning over cockpit...sitting there with hot cuppa coffee.....
about 18 foot or so Boston whaler type cruises by real slow.....comes back a bit later........(water Gestapo)...cruises by slowly........about half an hour later a fellow alks down the pier, stops near the edge of the cockpit, asks permission to come aboard..

O.K. peechi Luc.....I have to try to think of the sounds as I have never tried to write it phonetically.....I did learn to read road signs like left right, stop, caution etc....and find hotels and restaraunts....but it is a very phonetic sing song language, and sorta like morse code, you hear the sound and know the word without thinking......and my tagalog, pampangueno and the few words of zamboangan were picked up the same way. My housegirl was from Zamboanga, and I learned just enough to say thank you and ask for dinner or a sandwich in between coaching her in english, she wanted to get a job on the military base....and even today I have to really think to remember what Vietnamese I picked up after not using it for so long. Irina was amazed at how fast I was trying to learn Russian until she stopped me and pointed out that they only spoke russian because the russians over ran the place...when they became independent they started using their own language again........ain't international relations wunnerfull......;)

Solomons Island is at the entranceway to the Chesapeake bay across the river from virginia a little farther south. It's the only real marina area with deep water unless ya wanna get into some really yuppie places...
