    Dreamcar

We have had some threads about dreamcars.
Watching a docu about Mercedes Benz I have found mine:

    7.1 liter supercharged engine
    250 horsepower
    Topspeed: 136 mph
    Built: 1929

I guess you can still scare away a lot of cars on the left lane on the autobahn with that monster.

Naa - I'd rather drive 50miles on tha autobahn in the SSK going 136mph blasting away Porsche's, Audi TT's and Mercedes SLK's sitting straight behind the steering wheel wearing a bowler. Imagine the usual suspects in their modern sportscar looking in their rear windows seeing this monster coming closer and closer.

        Just once

Funnily enough, I was once overtaken, on a British road, by a Speed Six Bentley. I remember it well.

The effect was pretty much as you describe. As this immense pair of headlamps flooded the road either side of us with light, a tremendous noise made the car seem to shake and this monster powered past us, my girlfriend turned in her seat and said, "Oooohhh! Look at that!

Actually, to be quite fair, at Le Mans in 1930 the Bentley team made sure that the supercharged Mercedes would not finish. They thought that it might not last, so they set two supercharged Bentleys to race it until it broke, leaving the two team Speed Sixes a clear path to a win.

Mercedes did win in the end, though. It took them another 22 years to get it right.

Mark C´s findings are truly funny !

The same old 'Le Mans' circuit that I trespassed on in 1968 with an (unmentionable) make of car....specially after mention of these very racé types....

I wonder how a 2007 Toyota Camre V6 would do against these monsters. Any guesses?

The fuel consumption would probably be better.

The supercharged (4.5 litre) Bentley would do 2.5 miles per gallon at 100mph; the Speed Six (the car in the picture - an unsupercharged in line six, OHC, four valves per cylinder. 6.5 litres) did much better - 15mpg at 100mph - but had less acceleration...

That MB at 136 would be like riding a mountain bike downhill at 60!

                              CRAZY!

She'll have to go faster than 136 to blow away any Porsche I ever had!

Hell, my 944 Turbo from years back (even WITH all the down-force fins), etc. would start to float at 130 ... i.e it steered like my boat at that speed.

Those cars are beautiful to look at and tootle around town in ...
