I tried to post these photos myself yesterday and had help from the bilge. This the boat I finished earlier this year. http://www.ofoto.com/BrowsePhotos.jsp?&collid=95247385606&page=1&sort_order=

She looks great, Russell! Now, where is Lake County in OH, and where do you sail? (I grew up in Mason and spent a little bit of time in Clarksville, as well).

Lake County is just east of Cuyahoga Co where Cleveland is. The county is right by the lake. We live about a mile south of Lake Erie. We sail at Pymatuning Lake which is 60 miles east of here on the Ohio/PA border. It's about 10 miles long and 2 miles wide at the widest point. I don't know where Mason is. I think I've been to Clarksville; We've travelled all over Ohio looking for the best retirement spot.

The lake is 10 miles long, not the county. Lake Co. is the smallest county in Ohio, though.

Nice job, Russell... whose design was it?

Well, Russell, you wouldn't choose Mason as a retirement spot: It's the location of Kings Island and Proctor and Gamble headquarters. But Lake County sounds like a nice place to live.

I designed it myself. I just used what I thought would be a pleasing and functional bow design and the dimensions that made sense for our use. She's 14' X 5'2". It has stone ballast in burlap bags. I put a keel under it to keep from centerboard clutter. The sail area is 65 sq. ft. which seemed right to me. It works. It was made using whole molding to ease lofting, building and time.

:D You'll have to go farther than that to find the best retirement spot. Unless you adore snow. From the little bit of Ohio I've seen, somewhere around Loudenville-Berlin would be nice. Good Amish neighbors. Lots of hardwood for building boats. A river for canoeing and tubing. Not too sure about sailing. That's what trailers are for, right? Take the boat to the Gulf Coast when the snow gets undearable.

Oh, nice boat too. smile.gif

The spot we found is near St. Mary's Lake in western Ohio. It gets 1/3 the amount of snow we get here. The cold is OK 'cause you don't have to shovel it. The area around Celina, Ohio is absolutely beautiful.
