BTW, I do not think the editor displayed or conveyed a "profligate manner" at all. It was very well done.;) I had to look it up!
Definition: Profligate
Overthrown; beaten; conquered.
Broken down in respect of rectitude, principle, virtue, or decency; openly and shamelessly immoral or vicious; dissolute; as, profligate man or wretch.
I meant it in it's "Wildly extravagant". Meaning he throws in various pictures, including a schooner, that are not relevant to the narrative.
