Nanoose, you're mistaken, but the mistake's perhaps understandable. He and I agree on plenty. He's politically to the L of most of the US positions, as hard on corruption his own country as any other, and a committed environmentalist. Also an alumnus of the World Bank analytical staff.

If you use the search function a bit, you'll likely come across some pictures of George's lovely schooner, and his similarly lovely wife Sil - whom he met when they both worked in Washington.

I think that part of the rub with many forumites is that George and Sil decided that life would be better not in the midst of the World Bank's eschelons of power in Washington, but in Brazil. That the US is not necessarily the best place in the world to live. And judging by his life in Angra, it's hard not to think he had something there ...
