I don't know my way around the forum very well and haven't spent much time in The Bilge so I apologize for any repetition. I posted the following in 'People and Places' but I now see that it may be more appropriate here... After posting this, I've also read a lot more; and I see there are a lot of posts about making contributions to various entities in David's memory. The focus of this idea/offer is a little different than that... my interest is in sharing among the members of the WB community any expenses that may have been incurred by the caring individuals that gave so much and so selflessly during David's final weeks on the planet. If this issue has been addressed elsewhere, I'd appreciate a point out to that thread. But if not, here's what I posted in P and P -

''I've been away from the forum for a while and in catching up with events have been moved by the heartfelt response of so many members of the forum to Meerkat's illness and recent death. The kindness, caring, and generosity of spirit shown by so many members of this community is inspiring - and so welcome in contrast to so much of what goes down in the world among the humans. I have a practical question for those of you who were directly involved in David's care during his last months. Did any of you incur expenses on his behalf? I'm certain from what I've read that if this is the case, it was done selflessly and without thought of any repayment. But if it's so, would you consider letting those of us who did not have the opportunity to contribute at the time help now to defray those costs both as a way of saying thank you to those of you who did so much for him, and also of participating, however indirectly and after the fact, in David's care? I'd sure be willing to help out....''

(Cross-posting here from P&P for the benefit of The Bilge, you can all use a laugh. You folks of a certain age may recall where that intro line was paraphrased from ;)):

Jim,

Thanks so much for the offer, but I agree with Lew, we're good.

Dave's biggest expenses were medical, which were covered by yours and mine tax dollars. Same goes for the rent. We all chipped in on food and other things but I'm cheap and my time was worthless (at least until getting a girlfriend :D) so I contributed more time (like doing his laundry at the same time as mine which saved $40 a month), others who had minor commitments like jobs and families were extor...um, compelled to give more. I usually shared whatever I bought, be it teriaki or peroshki, a pound of starbucks every two weeks, or pie. Dave and I would clash sabers over the pie:

Me: That's good pie. Think I'll have another sir."
Dave: NO! It's MINE!
Me: I bought the damned thing!
Dave: I don't care. It's mine. You bought it for ME.
Me: You want coffee?
Dave: Did you buy half and half?
Me: Yes I bought half and half.
Dave: Because milk isn't as good.
Me: I said I bought half and half.
Dave: I'll have some coffee. Don't forget to put the sweetener in first.
Me: Thanks. I always forget.

We were worse than felix and oscar.
