Sorry about the C&P... I don't do many.
KRQE News 13
In Washington a House Judiciary subcommittee has subpoenaed former New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias to testify in before the panel next week. He is one of eight prosecutors abruptly dismissed, and all are expected to testify.
A Justice Department spokesman has said the eight were fired for performance-related issues. The Washington Post has reported at least four of the prosecutors were working on investigations targeting Republican politicians.
Iglesias, a Republican appointed by President George Bush, said Wednesday he believes he was fired because he refused to rush possible indictments of high-profile Democrats in another corruption case that's pending here.
By implication well-timed indictments in the publicly known probe of alleged corruption in the construction of the Metro Court building in Albuquerque would have benefited Republican candidates campaigning against public corruption.
Iglesias said that during the election campaign, two New Mexico members of Congress contacted him to ask about the case.

I've said it before and I'll say it again- I'm waiting for Bush to dismiss '08 elections as being 'unnecessary in the midst of the current conflict. The democratic process will resume when I see fit and the world is safe.'
Who wants to bet?

This is some sort of a suprize? This (stuff) has been going on since Nixon...right thru and both parties (well, maybe not "Saint Jimmy"). Prosecutors and staff get pressured every day to hit this or skip that.... here in Philadelphia, it's just a bit more out in the open and we're used to it. Heck, our prosecutotrs lean back so hard they fall over when there's no external push in a case!
Remember, the definition of "an Honest Politician" is one who stays bought.

Sure. I'll take your bet.
To be precise, you're saying that there will be no presidential elections in the USA in 2008, right? I am saying there will be.
How much do you want to bet? :D

There will be elections. I guessing that Bush will try to cancel them- and fail. I don't trust that SOB as far as I could chuck an elephant.

Doug
So what is it exactly that you want to bet on?

Based on everything I am hearing it is simply false to say that this is nothing new. I can't remember the exact statistics, but it is something to the effect of Bush has dismissed many more persecutors than any previous President (at least in the modern era).

What's unprecidented is that he can replace them without the Senate's OK. That bill was slipped in only a few months ago.

Iglesais, a Bush 43 appointee, has said that he's been given a number of different explanations, including the simple idea of experience sharing to give other Republicans this credit on their CV. Had they led with that and had two congressional members not made improper lobbying calls to him prior to the firing, he might well have gone quietly into the night. I hope that the committee asks for the names of those two. He's legally barred from volunteering their names but would be legally required to answer.
At least three other former US attorneys are also called to
