It's true. I've been looking at this for some time, but no matter the angle, the first 3 feet or so of Phoenix's keel are noticably different, port and starboard. The starboard side, looking down, is straight to convex, and the port concave. I probably need to check along the rabbet line, but I've been so damn busy I've not had hardly a moment to it for the past several weeks. With luck I'll squeeze a picture in before the weekend is out.

This on the new bit? Sounds like the wood warped a little, which surprises me given how well cured it is. Hmmmmmm.

Could have been from a slight mis-alignment of the forefoot timbers when she was built. redface.gif Things like that happen, usually never found by others. ;) So make the new keel to match and no one will ever know :D . Oops, we already know about it tongue.gif you told us.

Ian, on the original. My thoughts are as Ken's, just make it the same.

Once, when SWMBO and I were in a Persian rug shop, studying a particularly intricate work, she pointed out to me an irregularity in the rug. The shopkeeper sniffed and said
"Only Allah is perfect." .

A useful notion.

Could it have warped when it dried out?

That's a relief. On the new, I'd make both sides either straight or a tad convex, depending on what seems right. Definatly not concave.

Swedes built the port side, Norwegians built the starboard side.

Many Bahamaian boats are built to "eye" resulting in differences in sides. Just find out which side is the favored tack to be on. That's what they do.

I'll bet the other side ain't the same, either. ;)
