I am seeing more and more that they are nothing more than a breeding ground for attacks here in the bilge. My jesus thread is a perfect example. Yes, it was a c&p "troll", I admit that. But, at least 4 threads that spun off of that thread w/o a c&p start are doing well....and mostly same subjects. Why, I can only speculate that the c&p was the culprit
c&p don't kill threads, people kill threads

Frankly c&p's are useful, except when citations are left off, as Norman so often does. If you're ashamed to c&p from the Moonbat Monthly, then don't do it. Leaving off citations from posts only weakens the point...not that there was one to begin with.

C&P's are useful... if you need to make a long and articulate point which would otherwise require a lot of retyping and spell-checquing, but -as Rick so rightly points out- without their citations and provenance, they are sometimes less than useful.
I prefer to use a link to the article when possible... it allows someone no only to peruse the article in question, but also to further explore that site upon which it resides and see if the site itself is one which you would care to validate as balanced or biased. Information gleaned from an unabashedly biased site is automatically suspect in my view.

I've never intentionally left off a citation, but have always supplied one when asked. Most often, the C&P is from a site like Washingtonmonthly.com, and contains embedded links to the source material, so the citation is irrelevant, if you bother to click through the links.

Can you provide a citation for that assertion? :p

*laughs* I got yer citation right HERE! (Norm makes an obscene gesture)
The singular thing about open forums like this is that there's only a very small list of things ya CAN'T post... and the most important thing about open forums like this is that nobody is chained to a chair and forced to read a damn thing, or comment on it.
Don't like my posts? Don't read 'em.... I won't mind, trust me :D
But if they got you riled up enough to read them, or even comment on them, then my work is done! :o

C&P covers for those who are unable to write or as it often appears think for themselves.

Only the ones from Norman, Keith, and Osborne, and George, and Ian.AFAIK I have rarely if ever started a thread with a C&P - maybe once or twice. I have certainly cut and pasted quotes once a thread was going, and no one could accuse me of being taciturn at the keyboard, but I don't do the "post a long newspaper article" thing. Banning them would be silly, however; we have far worse problems.

I C&P thread starters - can't think of ever C&Ping a reply off hand - when I fancy that an author wrote better than I could on the topic. As folk who read me both in the Bilge and other places know, I have no mean opinion of my own wisdom and no reticence in sharing.
The corrospondants on this forum I find most valuable also both C&P and write their own, as the occasion demands.
While I benefit less from the one line acerbic put-down attempts some of our corrospondants post, I treasure how such posts so amply display those folks' wit and wisdom.

I agree with what many people have already said on this thread...cut and pastes can be interesting, the source should be cited, and they do not need to lead to acrimony...

C&P adds to the discussions. Why be limited by our own education and knowledge. Isn't that why AG invented the internet.............
