Hi, I'm stuck at the office, and don't hapen to have a copy of the magazine here... I wanted to call an advertiser, and need the phone number... it's listed in the classified section, under 'wood', and it's a small ad offering teak decking strips at $0.67/ft, as I recall... would anyone be so kind as to take a look and possibly give me the phone number? Thanks!

Hey Andy, how are things! The WBF is still my "home" when I open up explorer, and there you were...
I'm sitting here doing accounting, and wanted to log into WUMB for a bit of music...
Take care. Best to SWMBO!

Thanks, abe. I called them, and here's the deal: the strips are 1/4" x 1 3/4", plain sawn, in 5-8' random lengths. The price is good for 750 linear feet or more; for less than that, it's $0.94/lin ft.
750 linear feet, at those dimensions, is just what I need, although I'm not happy about the fact that it's described as plain sawn... I'd obviously prefer quarter sawn or vertical grain. However, my requirement is for the decking on a 15' open cockpit catboat, and the deck won't be walked on very much, so perhaps it's OK.
For comparison, I created a spreadsheet to see what it would cost to resaw my own strips from 8/4 teak, at local prices ($12.90/bd-ft)... based on a 0.080" kerf, it would run me about $0.62/lin ft... but with a great deal of tedious labor... sounds like their deal is pretty good.
Norm, good luck with your teak deck. I do not recall ever seeing much teak on a catboat and therefore I am looking forward to seeing the boat on completion. Grew up with Beetlecats and low maintenance canvas.
Norm, where is Sharan in relationship to Woodville, home of the Temple of Pheonix?
Hi Ed, alive and well up here on the border. That WUMB just put up a transmitter about ten miles away from here and if the wind is blowing easterly, I can receive the signal in the barn. About time they invested some of that tuition money I parted with. Hope you and the family are doing fine.

abe, I fully agree that most catboats don't sport a teak deck... it's admittedly an unnecessary and somewhat expensive affectation. However, I simply love the look of laid teak (I've built several dockboxes with laid teak steps!) and am willing to pay the cost and hours to do it. Since my building space is limited (my shop is a one-car garage), this catboat is the biggest thing I can possibly build, so I want it to be pretty!
The town of Sharon is located about 16 miles south of Boston, roughly midway between Boston and Providence RI... it's a sleepy little bedroom town with a lot of forested space... very quiet.
