We are trying to locate skilled metal fabricaters in the Puget Sound area who might take on a small fabrication job.
We have a 28' 9000 lb. sloop. We just removed all deck fittings, mostly galvanized steel (1964) in order to evaluate their condition, evaluate the wood under them, and to simplify recaulking our plank teak deck. There are places on each fitting where corrosion has compromised the strength.
So, we want new fittings fabricated. We need a new stemhead fitting, anchor rollers, chainplates, mainsheet traveler, and mast step (cabin top). These are shown in the attached photo.
We're comparing the cost of galvanized steel vs. bronze. Oh yes, we'd love bronze, but the painted galvanized looked right on the boat and lasted for 42 years. If material cost is the big difference in overall cost, we'll choose steel.
We're also considering modifying the mast step design to include a tabernacle (hinge), so we'd prefer somebody who can do a bit of engineering rather than just weld and galvanize. We're already familiar with the good folks at Port Townsend Foundry. We're looking for other options as well.
Here's a link to photos of the fittings and the boat:

Puget Sound sailors.....let us know which fabricaters you've heard of or worked with. Thanks!:)
