This is the kind of thing that I wish I had OLN for. I love stuff like that and the Volvo Ocean Race. Things that ordinary people (like me. Ordinary. Very, very ordinary) can only aspire to.

I will have to keep track of them, and wish them Godspeed (people and dogs).

Are the dogs wearing Nike's now? As improbable as it may seem, my kennel down here in the deep south, did a lot of the early development work on those booties that the sled dogs are wearing now.

Used to pay attention to the race when we lived in Fairbanks. They end in Fairbanks again this year.

Race Officials had a busy night launching 10 teams in the past 12 hours. All team launched on time with no issues from the campground.

Officials are commenting about how tightly packed the front of the race is at the halfway point with over half the teams leaving within 16 hours of the leader. While the frontrunners battle it out, there will be several interesting races going on in the middle of the pack. With weather and trail as the great equalizers, it is still anyone's race.

The top 6 mushers in the 2007 Yukon Quest have all departed Dawson for Eagle, AK. Lance Mackey was the first to leave at 12:23 pm this afternoon. Lance's team looked ready for the challenge as they barked and lunged into their harnesses.

William Kleedehn followed Mackey out of the Dawson City campground at 4:46 pm. William was at the staging area with plenty of time to joke with race fans and officials. His team looked fresh and ready to go.

Hugh Neff was right on his heels at 5:07 pm followed by a great looking team of Gerry Willowmitzer's dogs. Hans Gatt departed at 6:48 pm with a well rested dog team as well. Sebastian Schnuelle is reported to be in the staging area.
