Or lack of. I seem to have misplaced mine. All I want to do is sit in a corner and drool.
Family (4 kids, 2 dogs , cat and wife), job, transmitter site build for said job with NONE of the promised help from Corporate (just little old me), college, SWMBO's furniture she insisted I build for her, and the skiff that never seems to get done I am just wiped out.:(

Since you can find out anything about anything here, does anyone have a good source for extra motivation? Off to get another cup of coffee...

Good luck on that, Bill.

I keep a can of it out in the shop. Of course though to get to it I have to get motivated to get my work clothes on and go outside. Maybe I need to keep a can of it inside.

Luke, I'm your father. Give in to it, it is the "dark side".

I had a can of it once but the cat knocked it over and the lid come off...now it's all dried up. (the dog lapped it up and now he won't stop chasing his tail)

A few weeks in the Caribbean sun usually does it for me...

Ah, there's always a cat at the bottom of these situations!
Slap your wife on the rump and tell her how happy you are to be there with her (lie if you have to).
Give each of the four kids a big hug and tell them how perfect they are (lie if you have to).
Read the Meerkat thread.
Think about how quickly Meerkat would trade places with you.
I'm sure it does not help any that you're in Maine and it's wintertime. Time alone in the corner drinking coffee is a good thing, but the drooling must stop.
Best wishes....You're a lucky man!

Lock the kids up and take mom , and do some slap n tickle, and make sure mom is happy, you'll be happier too, at least for a while,,,,,,,, LOL
Spend some time telling mom how great she is, and how much you like being with her, then slap n tickle some more,,,,,,,,
Too cold to work on the boat anyway, may as well catch up on the more important homework,,,,,,

ask myself: what does it take to shake off these winter blah's? I have the first race of my season next week, so I had better get started, but I am with you, my friend. I have an awful lot of stuff to take care of for me to be sitting around unmotivated, but for the past several weeks that has been the place I have been in.
I guess the only answer I can give is that in my case, I just know that sooner or later I will snap out of it and everything will be just fine. As I get older I have come to realise that I am going to have these down times and I don't take them as seriously as I used to. It almost always happens in the winter, and I guess it may just be my body telling me to take it easy for a few weeks.
The thing about two weeks away is good advice, but in my case, a lot of times just planning something can do the trick. I always plan and scedule our vacations, and then I have my sailing trips to plan. Just planning out how you are going to catch up with the things you need to do may flip the switch in your case. Sounds trite, but just thinking about doing something that makes you happy might help.
Just keep plugging at it. If you are like me one day soon you'll wake up and say 'alright, that's enough of that', and it'll all be just fine.

Well, some fresh air helped.
SWMBO (grad student) had her nose buried in a book, and the twins were sleeping so I said to hell with my homework and work work and took the snowmobile out on the lake for a while. 30some odd miles of sun and fresh air certainly helped, especially stopping at one of the islands and just breathing in the fresh air.

Got em bad myself today :(. Worked a bit this morning, my customer is deciding between two houses. But after work I walked Lucky Dog, and cleaned up my place, did some laundry. Trying to keep busy but the change in my life rears its head every now and then and I look up and say to myself how the hell did I get here ? :(
And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful
Wife
And you may ask yourself-well...how did I get here?
Some days are better than others, todays is not one of the better ones :(
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the moneys gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!

I went out for some fresh air too, and boy, does it help. Nice day out. Ended up washing the cars, even.

So is the problem here motivation or exhaution?
Both.
I am incredibly fortunate. Wonderful family, great job, and an employer and wife who are very suportive of me going back to school, and I live in Maine- can't get much better.
However, with all that on my plate, sometimes it is just tough to get going in the morning. My brain and not-17-anymore body just scream NOOOOO!
Thanks all for letting me vent. (good natured vent)

Nope
Alright Dingo, I give up.... What is it?
Okay now here it is in a nutshell
Its in YOUR NOGGIN!! yes indeedydoody... Your silly little noggin thats chockers with mushy stuff is dictating to you how you feel!! Bloody pesky buggar aint he?
See youve got it all mate... good wife great kids great job nice home etc etc etc... but yer minds tellin yer that yer lacking something... not tellin yer what now is it? No its not!! Just that over riding "feeling" of "ooohh buggar it I cant be bothered" right? RIGHT!! so to over ride that stupid little pile of mushy stuff you gotta get real pissed of with it... I MEAN REALLY SOLIDLY PISSED OFF!!!... March out the door march up to the shed open the door SLAM IT if you can thats a sure sign of definitive action... then pick up a piece of timber look at it turn it over look at the machines layin there all ready for you to get creative
See the moanin chair in the corner? Your NOT gonna sit in that!!... true your not... YELL AT THE DAMNED CHAIR!! "I WILL NOT SIT ON YOU" Thats the fella told that sucker where to get of with its lazyassed ways didnt yer... too bloody right yer did... so what next? you got a chunk of wood in yer hands you got the tools you got the ability... DOESNT MATTER!!! Just do something with it... as you start sanding it watch it see what comes out in the grain... mmm can you see a jewelery box? maybe a nice ceegar box? maybe a clock? a toy for the kids? a hat rack? a coffee table? Let your mind wander as you play with the peice in your hands... now start thinking about HOW your gonna do it...
See by now your motivated again!!
True... one of the hardest things in my day is getting up... gawd I love bein in bed!! man its soooo flamin comfy... but I do then I have me ablushuns an a cuppa and Im stuck... so I head outside with the cuppa an Im still stuck so I sit at the outdoor setting watching the sun rise over the hill and Im still stuck... damn its hard as hell sometimes... other times Im right as rain head out to the shed where all the timber and tools are waiting maybe theres something waiting for me on the table to complete maybe not... but sometimes I will get there wander around like a lost sheep lookin for Johnno an not finding him anywhere :D and then sit down on the moanin chair... sometimes I can sit there for hours just staring off into the damned distance... other times I sit and the black thoughts come over me for no apparent reason and I will feel the tears rise for no reason whatever... and then mate you know what I do?
I FORCE myself out of that chair toss it out the door and grab a peice of timber and start sanding it!! and keep sanding it TILL something hits me... and not the chunk of wood either although thats been known to happen from time to time... but suddenly as Im sanding away it will slowly come to me and I will maybe start marking out something thats not quite clear in my mind yet cause its still dark in there but something is starting to formulate so I keep going then I may start cutting or drilling and suddenly Im doin it!! WHATEVER IT IS!!
And the mood lifts..
But mate its in yer head! You gotta get really pissed of with your ming and tell it to pull its bloody head in force your mind to understand that TODAY IS GOING TO BE A GOOD DAY... and make it so
Another way Ive found is to start laughing... yes you read right! Start laughing... heck choose yer ticklefancy! Ive sat and laughed at my damned toes stupid wee things they are nails need sawing again an see how the second from the right on the left foot bends weird why arent you straight like the second from the right on the right foot dopey bloody toes and so on... BUT LAUGH... soon enough the mood will lift and you can move on
Ive sorta learnt its best to do that in relative privacy... some people just dont understand someone laughing at their toes  no sence of humor them peoples :p
But seriously... its in your head not your heart not your soul not your family or anything else in your head and YOU have control over that!! If you dont its time you did!... so tell it!!
Is it easy? OOOOHHHHHHH YEAH... well at first its a pain in the bum but after awhile of doin it its quite interesting at what a) you can find when you start sanding a peice of timber and b) what you can find funny! either way its cost you buggar all and either way youve achieved something
note here... even makin a total galah out of yourself is achieving something!! :D MInd you with the sanding what Ive found is that my 5ft x 3ft x 2ft deep scrap box is full of rather interestingly sanded peices and chunks of timber of all different sizes and shapes... but even then... next time I know where Im gonna head! Straight to that scrap box!!
BUT!! Dont get me started with work!! Every moaning I get up at 4am I think one thing..."CHACHINK" thats the cash register goin off every hour another "CHACHINK"... I dont even have to say it "CHACHINK" anymore every hour my mind says it for me "CHACHINK" oooh yeah... but I hate that mine I cant abide the blokes I work with a bunch of real wakkers and the boss? 27 year old kid with no commitments earning 400000 a year PLUS!! and a right knowall smartass to go with it... but the money? oooh yeah "CHACHINK!" its the only reason I go back every time I fly home I say "THATS IT!! NO BLOODY MORE" and yet in one weeks time its "CHACHINK??" so I go back.... well I will in about a weeks time  then its "CHACHINK" WHAHOOO "CHACHINK" ALL RIGHT "CHACHINK" OOH YEAH "CHACHINK" CHACHINK thats me new ubeaut keel CHACHINK and theres me new ubloodybeaut wheel CHACHINK theres me maxed out credit card sorted CHACHINK CHACHINK CHACHINK!! forget the dopey buggars your working with WORK TO LIVE DONT LIVE TO WORK!... by letting the buggars get to you your living to work cause its gettin yer down your thinkin about it all the time so think of the money!! CHACHINK!!
okay thats it... anyone reckon Im wrong? go for it!!
