Coming up next week. My brother, John, will be handling the number 1 ranked, Black Russian Terrier, at the benched show.
One of the first signs of spring! Westminster and Pitchers & Catchers!

Donn, regarding those signs of spring: I went fishing yesterday afternoon, and was really excited when I caught a nice 4.5 pound bass, the instant my jig hit the water on my very first cast of the day. :) Then spent the next three hours with nary a bite.:o
When the first cast scores, especially this early in the year, you quit fishing. When you're older, you'll understand.

:D :D :D
If there was anyone more frustrated than me at the end of the day it was my brother, who left without any bites.
It was a good day to be out there actually.

So how'd they do? I missed him if he was on TV we did catch most of the Terrier group , but is what we're seeing on TV the bench part of the show?? Doesn't appear to be to me from my coon hound bench / field trail days.
Good luck to him BTW:)

John and the terrier took an award of merit (essentially second place) in the Black Russian Terrier breed ring earlier today. Only the winning dog of breed makes it to the groups which are then televised. Not bad for his first invitation to Westminster.
Not many true bench shows around anymore, although they all used to be bench shows. At such shows the dogs are required to spend several hours a day, on 'the bench' in these gallery areas where they can be seen by the public as well as the judges before the competition begins. Westminster requires that its entrants stay on the bench and be available for public veiwing during the entirety of the show, they are quite strict and will sanction you if you leave early.
