Best place to get them fried used to be Macs Clam Shack in Newport. I'm wondering who makes them up the best these days.

'"Mac's Cam Shack" ? ? Newport, Rhode Island? Don't you mean Flo's Clam Shack?

If so, they're still serving them up nice and hot and juicy and sweeet as ever.

I do have to admit, though, that the Clam Box in Ipswich MA is as good as Flo's - maybe, just maybe a hair better.

You'll find stands dotted along the coast here that serve up a good basket of clams and fries. We've had red tide quite a bit the last couple seasons, which put a damper on the trade. It's not a huge favorite of mine, so I haven't paid much attention. I think it a bigger thing south of here. You're much more likely to find a good lobster roll hereabouts.

Macs used to be kitty corner across the street from thesewage treatment plant- not an appetizing locale.

The clams and beer made up for it.
