My 27' red cedar hull sloop was coated with hot tar below the water line then had bottom paint applied. It has been about 4 or 5 years since it was hauled and quite a bit of the bottom paint has sluffed off leaving the tar showing. I cann't get to a yard to have her hauled soon. I'm worried about toredo worms etc getting into the wood. Will the tar protect against the worms? It looks like there is a good coating of tar applied.

Just to get you started there is:
Pine Tar
Stockholm Tar
Marine Pitch
Asphalt Roofing Cement aka 'bear ****e'
Hot Mop Roofing Tar
And whatever goes into the mix that the Europeans call Tar. Pekka Hutta a member of the Forums and all around nice fella has a web site with some photos and explanations of the Tar used in Finland and I imagine other Scandanavian countries.
