If you haven't figured it out yet I had to work on my car today. That being the case I had to drive my truck back and forth to the parts store.

Been a month, went out, pumped the hell outta the gas (Holly carb) and she fired right up.

That is one of the things I like about my old truck. Sure it is a PIA come emmissions testing, sure she sucks the gas, sure she gave me hell when putting in a new motor, but that was understandable considering all the alterations I did.

But boy is she dependable and easy to work on.

What sort of truck?
What sort of car, for that matter, with the rad and fan?

(yeah, I'm "new". Been reading for a while but first post.)

Randy, the truck is a 1990 Chevy 4WD. A few years back I took out the old V6 and put in a HO V8. Lot of work to do the conversion, but I did it.

The car is a 1995 Ford Tarus that I got when my Laser died and I needed a better gas mileage vehicle.

Nothing like an old truck for reliabilty. Back in about 1994 we had a day in Chicago where it was like 28 below with 70 below wind chill. I had a 1990 5.0 Mustang as my daily driver. My car wouldnt even turn over, but my 1970 Bronco with a 302 fired right up and I drove to work. It was a bummer that the heater didnt work though...windshield iced up on the inside and I could barely see...

Shame that there is no heat, but you arrive to your destination..:) From point A to B.... Maybe you would try to get that heater a going... I put in a new heater core, and wow nice heat, even there's no floor board on my side....

Reminds me of the year, about 1985 I think when we had a real cold snap.We had just relocated from the Tidewater area Of VA to my hometown of Martinsville VA.
One morning I got up to go to town and my brand new '84 Camero wouldnt turn over it was so cold.New car, new battery, no start.
My old '73 LTD wouldnt turn over either.I didnt own a battery charger so called my dad,his car wouldnt start either, nor would my Aunts car, my uncles car ,and so on.
I wound up taking the battery out of the LTD and bringing it in the house and warming it up as best I could that way, hoping to revive it.I did the same with the Camero's battery.
After letting them warm up guess which car started 1st,,,, yep the old LTD....The Camero wouldnt turn over until much later in the day.

I wont ever sell mine. I rebuilt it and repainted it in 89 and drove it for 13 years. This was at the 13 year mark. Most fun vehicle I have ever owned. http://home.earthlink.net/~tigmaster41/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/102-0289_img.jpg

I know that 1990 ain't really that old, but it is old enough esp. since the engine is an 85.

I thought being old is pre '80's autos.. Without the electronic gizmos telling you or the vehicle what to do... I am lover of mechanical gauges... No on-board computers, or brain to short out due to electromagnetic pulses.... Law enforcers are using these methods to stop cars during high-speed pursues..

Well my 90's model truck ain't got no onboard computers controlling anything. Mainly because when I did the engine swap I bypassed all that junk.

once upon a time I bought a brand spanking new super Beetle...started up and ran like a little clock......until it got cold.....and when the temp was about 0-15degrees F...I had no choice.....walked out back to the black Mariah, pulled out the choke, flipped the crank one time, pushed choke in half way, turned on ignition, flipped crank again....always started on first or second crank no matter what.....1931 Essex....

How about a 68 Chevy C10. Have had it 21 years. 292 with a powerglide. No pwr steering (although I have collected the pieces to add that), no pwr brakes, no radio etc. Pretty basic. Runs good and rides better than my Supercrew. Don't ask about fuel mileage however.

Yer new ones got girly wheels onit.... Why would you get rid of a perfectly good 65-66 C-10?

cs
01-23-2007, 07:06 AM
That was a 1964.

The reasons I got rid of it were numerous. Couldn't get the old single barrelled carb to quit leaking gas, despite the numorous ones I put on. The brakes were shot. The body needed work. It was cold and drafty. Just a bunch of little things.

But I tell you what, you could go out there and add some brake fluid, pump up the brakes (didn't have to bleed them) and fire it up and it would go forever.

I had a '67 with the straight six, cattle sides, and a 3 on the tree... Great truck, built like a brick s.....Anyway. I made the mistake of selling it to afford a summer semester at R.I.S.D. and the brat kid I sold it to pimped it out... That and he spun the main bearing and kept on driving until it just melted down on the hiway one day..... Kids.....PFFFFTTTTT!

Joe you pay for air fare and room and board and I'll come put you one in. And don't forget my hourly wage for engine install. ;)

That one would be worth putting back together.
