It's time for appliances. What kind of luck have you had (good or bad) with appliances?

We really like our Frigidaire and Kitchenaide appliances. Do you want model numbers? :)

Bob,
I agree with your opinion of LG.

Nanoose,
Yes, I'd appreciate model numbers.

Bosch or Seimans (sp?) dishwashers are great! Super quiet and super efficient.

I'll second the Bosch dishwasher recommendation, even the cheaper model.

We have a AEG washing machine that is 16 now (but only used for 11 years) and a AEG dishwasher, now 6 years old. No trouble yet with any of the two so far (touch wood).

Mind you, AEG is not liked very well at the moment in Germany as under current Electrolux ownership, they have closed a plant in Germany and transferred the work into low cost countries.

Miele is more or less regarded as the top brand in washing machines (and other applicanes) in Germany. They are generally recommended for bigger families with lots of small children as they are regarded as "heavier duty" then other brands.

Last I heard, Bauknecht is very successfull in exporting washing machines to the US. They have a good reputation as well ("Bauknecht knows what women want" ...).

Especially on refrigerators and deep freezers, Liebherr is also a good name.

Our cookers are a Seppelfricke and a Wamsler www.wamsler-web.de/index.php?sid=e036fff7f7f53d9e09e892f70add065d&cl=alist&cnid=5c2449aa05f8b76e7.86394825&sSearchParam=&article_id=4d9447c0bdd89d173.49650034&pgNr=0&lang=0

Bosch / Siemens are good brands for all white goods as well.

The bandsaw is a ..., the planer / thicknesser a ... (that latter one is only semi professional, a bit light for heavy work and also quite noisy).

The stereo is a ...

Ok, I will stop here! I hope this contribution was of great help ;)

Interesting about the Bosch dishwashers. My sis-in-law bought one last year that’s junk. Everything is streaked and it sounds like an out of tune Evinrude.

We remodeled a few years ago and put in Kitchen Aide everything – stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave. Love it all.

Depends on your ego and how much you want to spend.

You could spend 10 grand for a fridge ... or 1500 for one that is JUST as good and efficient.

Want high-end appliances that will NOT break the bank? GE PROFILE or WHIRLPOOL GOLD.

Have had (in different houses) a fridge, DW, Microwave, range of EACH brand.

NEVER had any trouble with them. Currently, everything in my home is GE PROFILE.

Hint: Check the electrical/insulation/warranty/etc. specs. You will be surprised at how much you will pay for a 'hood ornament!'

I'll tell you something else- KENMORE is good.

Our old DW was Kitchenaid that we were very unhappy with. We bought the Seimans and are very happy with it, now streaking as described above. I have founf the gel/liquid detergent works better than the powder. The powder tend to streak more. We have a DW at one of the fire stations that is streaked really bad from the powdered detergent.

We recently bought the Fridgidair front loading washer and drier (the stackable units) and are also very happy with the purchase. Quite, less space, more efficient use of water and power.
