Okay since the flood last year I now find I dont have the cds anymore so Im gonna ask here...
I know in one issue there was an article on "building a ships wheel" what I need to know are the dimensions of the spokes and "falloes?" the inbetween bits for a wheel with a diameter of 26in... this would have 8 spokes
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

Cheers Jeff
Whats the dimensions of the feloes? 3 1/4" x? 2in x ?
Okay the dimension of the spoke is 1in sq... so is the inner falloe 1/4in less either side so that the outer falloe is able to be cutinto so it sits flush on the spoke and flat on the inner falloe? Im assuming that dimension is the width?
Karlo Ive seen that.... the last set I saw went for $180AUD and mate thats just not gonna happen! me other half may be a tiny wee thing but by the gods she has a tighter grip on the purse strings than a 1000klo Sumo wrestler!

Cheers again Jeff
Chuck I will be using Jarrah for the spokes and inner falloes and am considering Sheoak or banksia for the outter... this would make it fair sparkle in the looks department but would loose some of the strength something like Tuart or Jarrah has... actually I do still have a bit of Tuart laying around so may just go with that and do some sort of inlay or perfurling in the rebates where the screws will go.... I actualy have a fair bit of your USA RedWood crotch veneer I bought last year so that could blend well as the perfurling eh

Hey Shane
If I send this one over for you to fix up, I'll let you copy it while you do the repairs. This is one of the teak originals off Grantala:

FWIW....There is a 30" Wilcox Crittenden wheel on eBay. The only place I know of where you can get a wheel like this now is at Lunenburg Foundry, but I'm not even sure they work with cast iron any more. You may have to pay the big $$$ for cast bronze.....and we all know how much copper has skyrocketed!!!
I have one of these on my 25' Crosby catboat. Top quality! Hope I can the link on here correctly....

OOOPS! Just realized where you are......shipping this might be a little prohibitive unless you know a Quantas crew member!

Thats what 70 years on the sundeck will do to you. I've had the bronze bits rechromed - must get around to dowelling / glueing this back together though. A few people before me have had a go at it over the years.
