Hello
I just moved back to Nova Scotia from British Columbia and am looking for sources of wood. I'm trying to complete a CatsPaw this winter. I brought as much yellow cedar as I could carry, but need a few longer pieces to complete the boat.

Any suggestion where I could fine some nice oak or ash. Was at the building sipply place and they only have poor quality wood. I enjoyed BC for the endless supply of cheap high quality cedar. Clear red cedar at $1/foot, mostly 18 to 24" wide.

Thanks for any help.
Andrew

If R.J. in Dartmouth is too far away, talk to the Nelders in Big Pond. They build boats and may have sources closer to you.

BIG POND BOAT SHOP (http://www.alongshore.com/boatshop/about.htm)

Also, search in the Products area. This subject came up back in the Srping.

I was on a vacation in Nova Scotia last August. While visiting boat building places in Shelburne I came across someone known as the "Canoe Guy". I don't have the name of the museum handy but it would be easy to contact the Tourism folks there and ask about the place on the waterfront where they are building canoes. He said he had a good source for white cedar to build his canoes with. Knowing him he probably has good sources for other types of wood as well. Good luck.

i'm to far down the road from you.RJ, if you 'most' say so, might your new business not be more successful if you called it 'Stem to Stern' instead of 'Stem to Stren'? Sorry to hear you are 'to' far down the road instead of 'not too' far.

Anywho, I hope you will please respect forum rules and not use it for promoting your personal business. Keep a low 'porfile' as they say :D
