They all look about the same.Cars are boringly alike now days
katherine, why the huge wheels on cars these days? What does a 18" wheel do that a 15" can't except cost more , use more rubber and damage rims?

Great pictures; thanks!
I get the feeling that a lot af automotive stylists these days watched WAY too much Japanese anime growing up.

The bevel is nearly neat - the rear door will be cursed by anyone who owns a roof rack and a kayak, and there's a touch of "pacer" about the asymetric doors....

There is nothing wrong with a RGM-79 Gundam.

There is nothing wrong with a RGM-79 Gundam.:D :D Not at all. One of my guilty pleasures is watching anime, although I prefer Miyazaki. I was just pointing out the mecha aesthetic in a lot of the new designs.
There IS something wrong with that toothy Lincoln, though.

Whats wrong is that people will actually sign a contract with the bank and spend obscene amounts of money they dont have yet just so they can park such an ugly vehicle in their drive way or garage.
Todays cars cost too much , tomorrows will be even worse.I will stall off buying another new vehicle until I can wait any longer.I'm not looking forward at all to the day I have to wrestle with a salesmen for another deal. The idea of having to go in and fight to keep from getting fleeced isnt appealing at all.More arguing over tradein value, arguing over the fact the guy tried to take my downpayment and let it get "lost" in the final figures, having to stand up tell the guy hes a crook and walk out just so he can come running after me to save the deal.LAst time I had to walk out the door, and couldnt find my truck, they had pulled it around behind the building to make it harder for me to leave.I hit the ceiling and demanded it be brought back , and parked at the door "RIGHT NOW" before I would go back in and finish the deal.IT took 7 hours to get the deal I wanted. Before I would sign the papers.I dont want to go thru that again. Ever.

where are the cars that are the modern day equivalent of my 240 volvo wagon-still one of the most practical and durable cars ever built. simple too. and where is the modern day vw bug- simplicity itself only honda fit, civic or rabbit comes close but even these are kinda complicated.
does this show demonstrate our society become too "objectcentric" and decadent? does our economy require this? can we afford this?
and alot of the cars are looking the same. look at the profiles of the new accord coupe and the toyota and nissan equivalent. and i guess everyone is follwing the banglebmw look after criticising ot for a few years. from a branding standpoint alot of the marks are loosing it. then again, i had a professor in design business school who said, the more products become competitive, the more they look alike, until they totally disapear. he cited examples historically. one i remeber is the furnace. used be the centerpiece in the house. appearance became a big deal and a selling point. eventually they disappeared in to the basement , then became even smaller and hidden in a closet.
stereo, walkman, ipod, flashdrive. cars haven't made the evolution yet but hey are getting dreadfully alike except for those totally right unique models - mini, scion, porsche, tt, bmw (unfortunately they need to keep changin because everyone wants to copy them).
auto companies need to really think about what they are doing. they are providing a service and one that needs to be pleasureable experience through out the entire use cycle. and that is not measure by the size of their b.... wheels or er....engines.

Hi, this made me smile, so I thought I would share it with you:
NELSON MANDELA
Nelson Mandela is sitting at home watching TV and drinking a beer when he hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, he is confronted by a little Japanese man, clutching a clip board and yelling,
"You Sign! You sign!"
Behind him is an enormous truck full of car exhausts. Nelson is standing there in complete amazement, when the Japanese man starts to yell louder,
"You Sign! You sign!"
Nelson says to him, "Look, you've obviously got the wrong man", and shuts the door in his face.
The next day he hears a knock at the door again.
When he opens it, the little Japanese man is back with a huge truck of brake pads. He thrusts his clipboard under Nelson's nose, yelling,
"You sign! You sign!"
Mr Mandela is getting a bit hacked off by now, so he pushes the little Japanese man back, shouting: "Look, go away! You've got the wrong man. I don't want them!"
Then he slams the door in his face again.
The following day, Nelson is resting, and late in the afternoon, he hears a knock on the door again. On opening the door, there is the same little Japanese man thrusting a clipboard under his nose, shouting,
"You sign! You sign!"
Behind him are TWO very large trucks full of car parts. This time Nelson loses his temper completely, he picks up the little man by his shirt front and yells at him: "Look, I don't want these! Do you understand?
You must have the wrong name! Who do you want to give these to?"
The little Japanese man looks very puzzled, consults his clipboard, and says:
(It's a beauty)...
(wait for it)...
(Get your best Japanese accent ready)......
"You not Nissan Main Deala?"

I'm mad that I can no longer tell my "it's raining Datsun Cogs" joke. It's in the retirement vault along with "What's a Greek urn?"
