Hello everyone!
I have started to restore on of the 7 Udell 22 square meter boats originally built in Kungsör, Sweden for export to chicago, Skipjak is now back in Sweden again...
I am sure there will be questions to ask, in the meentime please have a look on the daily updated homepage, for now the work is concentrated on replacing around 40 frames, the homepage is in Swedish but please ask questions in English about the pictures and I will reply...

That's a beautiful boat.
Do you know of any resources where I could find information on these Skerry cutters?
Thanks

Hey Alixander!
To start with you could try the Swedish 22 organisation and and a new American site:
http://www.sk22.nu
http://www.22squaremeters.com/
Here you will find the rule in english:

Thanks for the link! very helpful smile.gif
You wouldn't by any chance have some idea of this boat would you?
The caption reads that it is named Grimstadjolle from Grimstad, Norway

No i don't know anything about the Grimstadsjolle, Grimstad is a town and "jolle" means sloop, there is a lot of english info on google:

I have a Oslojolle from Grimstad. There is a company still making the Grimstadjolle NWBC (http://www.nwbc.no/ourboats/grimstadjolle.htm)
I saw a few of these last year while in Norway, very well built. My Oslojolle is basically a centerboard version of this boat. Very fast and very tender as you would expect. I mighgt part with mine, but it's glass (for shame) ;) )
Reading the news section it seems they are selling out of Port Washington now!! I have to move to Port Washington, it’s all happening there. Everything accept the Wooden Boat Rescue Foundation---I can't seem to get anyone to help me from there---come on people you are loosing good boat everyday!!!!!
cheers, Bruce---hope this helps

sent a reply but seem to have posted it as a new topic, sorry, but you'll see it there. By the way just back from another nice trip to Stockholm, great place for a visit.

to restore all seven boats one at a time? Bloody marvelous. The 22's are a beautiful boat and I am so happy to see them being redone.
Please keep us updated on your progress.

Hello Robin,
Enjoy your project! I own S200 Sonja(formerly Rayona) also built at Kungsors yard in 1934. If my wife hadn't decided to build a house, I'd be finishing the rudder install, replacing rigging, and sailing.
I heard about the Skipjak project from Brad Jirka of Chicago, the owner of another 22. The only advice I can give you is try not to lose site of your goal. After many years of rebuilding Sonja, the excitement has worn off a little. Try not to start (or let your wife start you) working on other projects that reduces your focus on Skipjak. It's easy to do!

Actualy Uffa Fox wrote a nice description of the Skerry cutters in his second book. I just saw #11 out sailing in Newport Harbor yesterday.
Pretty boat!

Thank you Rich!
I've followed the development of Sonja for a couple of years now, great work!
Skipjak is slowly getting better, 40 frames is replaced and about 30 more will be replaced, that's a lot of frames, after that I will will look into the rest of the boat, deck and so on....

Keep going, and as some of my friends here always say 'send pictures!'.
I read on the Udell site where there may be more boats being built. Is that going to happen? Those are beautiful, beautiful boats.

Forgot to mention that the Grimstadjolle is alive and well. Mostly geographically contained to the south coast of Norway - Oslo fjord as far as I know. I haven't sailed any, but I have seen the fleet in Grimstad.
There are a number of small boats of that caliber around the coast. My favorite is the 12 1/2 sq.meter... the smallest square meter of all and found only in Norway. I have a few pictures of my old 12 1/2 on my website...

The production of the new Udells will take place down in Newport, and it is to my knowledge realy going to happen!
58 new frames laminated! 12 more to go!
