Yep, I'm pretty sure Lionel.
It's hard to remember, but the Barrymores are an American stage family almost as respected as the Booths. A bit further on. The old men were never far from drunk, as was common in the age. Lionel makes a great Potter. Few of that age could roll dismissive of the little man off the tongue the way he could.Last edited by ishmael; 12-24-2006, 09:24 PM.Comment

Keep him going Joe.
He'll get to answering a lot more than his own question.
Maybe even post a 5th or 6th thread on this movie about wonderful living.Study PeaceComment

Well, Capra is done. Dive into the depths and be redeemed. Classsic Capra. It's obviously a drama, but I think he's right, in some fundamental way.
He had a great love of this American experiment. Eastern European immigrant, a hard charger at the American dream. His classic American fairytales, this and Mister Smith Goes to Washington, belong in the archives.Comment

Read the era, Jamie. The Booths held sway for half a century. Modernists, like the Barrymores, were coming on as Edwin left the stage. The Booths, painted harshly by the perfidy of JW, were strictly considered at the the end of the 19th, but by most accounts were the best classical American actors of the time.
Drew has a lump to live up to. I've always liked her. Impish. A long legacy.Comment

They may have been but there were not many actors then. The yhad the stage to themselves so to speak. etc... I think that they are a wee tad overated although people seemed to think they were good. Not being around, I don't know..
I also think that the Booths were limited.. Only Shakespeare. No depth.. Good at Hamlet etc. but.. they never could diversify... Again, limited..Good actors can play all types of roles if they are good.Last edited by S.V. Airlie; 12-24-2006, 11:13 PM.Comment
