Pop was exec. during the end of the war. Western Philipines. Nothing real hot, but they did fight their way ashore a couple times.

But what I wanted to say is how amazing the good parts of the web are. I've got a contact number for a shipmate. I called, left a message. It would be amazing to hear stories. I hope I can get in touch.

They actually did call him "Pop" because he was the ripe old age of 28.

Well, I've done the beginning of research, and I'm not at all sure Pop was an exec. on LST 639. I know he was exec. on one of those boats out of Chicago, but I'm not sure which one. I've talked with a widow, and a gunner's mate who was there. Pop may have been on another LST.

Great conversations. You could bottle the Cajun coming out of Woodrow, a gunner's mate, and Naoma, the widow, was a peach. Woodie didn't remember Pop, but that doesn't mean much. Both have promised to send a variety of stuff.

P.S. Is there an easy way to get Pop's service record?
