Hi folks,
I'm rebuilding a 48' bugeye, and am considering different engines. A friend has a 30hp sabb with a variable pitch prop that he wants to sell to me. Everything that I've heard about them sounds great, but I'm interested to hear anything that any of you have to say about sabb diesels. Thanks!

Use the search link up there in the upper right and do a search on Sabb. You might also try a search on China diesels if you like fireworks, LOL. Definately search in the different sections of the forum as there has been plenty of previos discussion on these, but I don't remeber in which sections (I know more than just one).

Lots of reading - good luck!

PS: Almost forgot my manners, welcome.

I've only ever heard good things about them, but are they still current?. Spares availability might be the only drawback.

Had one in one of my previous boats. Great engines. Loved the variable pitch. I'm thinking of repowering and am considering one. One consideration is to make sure of the seals. Mine leaked oil. The good news is that they are capable of being rebuilt in the boat.

What is the displacement of your boat? Although the Saab's are great engines 30hp may be underpowered for your boat.
