Hey folks.. If ya haven't already gotten a new one, I would suggest that you do.. even if ya don't need one right now..
Went to get mine renewed this morning.. no line but the lady said it has been busy...
A couple of things..
1) My mug shot came out looking somewhat repectable.. surprise.. :)
2) Ya can use an old passport if it has expired within the last fifteen years.. thought it was ten.
3) it now costs about 115.00 to get one and this price won't last... almost like a sale...

So, anyway, going through the id info.. She asked me for my birth certificate.. did not have on hand.. So she rambled about my having to come back for a few minutes.. Finally looked at her and asked, " What about this old passport?" Oh she said.. that will work... LOL....

So.. eight weeks folks....

With passports rapidly becoming necessary for travel to and from Canada and other places for which a passport used to be optional, a lot more people are going to need to have one. To bad they are so #($&#& expensive.

The new passports also have RFID (radio frequency ID) chips built-in and can be read at a distance without your knowledge.

There is a rather active discussion on the net about whether it's a really bad thing, or not a big deal.

Hate to say this Jamie, but the fee is $67 for 8 week service, $115 if you want quick service of 3 weeks., I got the forms and made them out on the govmt web site. Got the photos at a quick photo place for $6.95, a few $ for quick mail.

When I renewed my passport last March the check I had to write was for $112.95. I think that included a new photograph. As I recall, it would have been cheaper if my passport had not be as out of date as it was.

Federal agents raided six Swift & Co. processing plants in six states on Tuesday in search of illegal immigrants who stole the identities of lawful U.S. residents and used their Social Security numbers to get jobs at the beef and pork company.
Agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (http://www.ice.gov/) agency executed search warrants at Swift's processing facilities in Greeley, Colo.; Grand Island, Neb.; Cactus, Texas; Hyrum, Utah; Marshalltown, Iowa; and Worthington, Minn.
ICE officials didn't give the total number of people arrested but said workers were being apprehended on administrative immigration violations and in some cases, existing criminal arrest warrants. The warrants allow federal agents to arrest anyone at the plant who is in the United States illegally.
ICE said criminal charges of aggravated identity theft and other violations were possible. No charges have been filed against the company.
In Greeley, cars lined the street leading to the plant as family members stood outside. One person held a sign that said, "Presents! No tears at Christmas!"
A company statement obtained by FOXNews.com said all the facilities raided except the one in Hyrum are unionized. No civil or criminal charges have yet been filed against Swift or any current employees.

Oh, I know quite well what the term "wetback" means. I don't get why you felt the need insert a slam against illegal immigrants into a reasonable discussion about passports. What I really don't get is why you always seem to be so angry.

Well I only posted this for a heads up.. in part as I had a recent experience going through the border to and from Canada... When I went into Canada.. I asked the guy about coming back in.. Asked him what to expect.. he looked at me and said " A hard time ". I could not believe he could keep a straight face.. but he was right... I was given a hard time.. with a Dept. of the Inerior Employee ( with picture ) ID., two old passports.... etc... Now C'dog breezed through.. she had her papers ready and nada.. wasn't even asked for id...
