Hi Everyone,

It's taken a while to get to this point.. A while back I posted on the topic of exhaust system design. Per usual - I over think the problem. It started with this:

However - The exhaust hose took up leg room, and would have made fabricating a firewall a real pain. I came up with ideas on getting 4" Stainless tubing bent for up near the engine, then a custom fabrication from a marine exhaust shop. I was worried about too many bends, etc..

The final answer was much simpler (of course).. just use hump connectors and elbows. My concern over bends was unnecessary.

With all of that out of the way, I had a funny bend at the back of the boat.

This was much simpler (thanks to the forum) I mitred 4" fibreglass exhaust connectors - glassed and taped them.

These worked great.

Made a temporary instrument cluster.

And finally test ran the engine today: It is a new 5.7L Mercruiser. The test firing went great. Mercury Marine did a great job on these engines.

I'm happy this part is over with - The exhaust system was a real trouble spot for me for some reason.. There is not much written on the subject as far as I can tell. I guess that is where experience plays in.

Take Care,
Bob Perkins
