GS' keelson is laminated from 3 pcs 5/8" fir, the middle pc wasn't long enough so I scarfed it,

thus a scarf box:

Funny how you can never have too many clamps, eh? Starting to look like it might turn into a boat.

Very neat work gert, Looks like I'm a wood butcher compared too you. How are you going to scarph the plywood? All at once or in your gig? I'm using the 1/2 in Meranti BS 1088. It machines very nicely. Have you bought your ply yet?

I have not bought the ply yet, though I have informed the boys that 20 sheets as Xmas gift would go over rather well.

I too am considering hyrotek:

Link here is in Canadian dollars and prices are per sheet; bulk discounts are available.

Does any one know how well it will bend at the stern (Meranti is stiffer than Occume)?
And how many sheets she neads?

The strakes will be scarfed after they're cut to rough shape, and probably glued ON the boat, we'll see. All but the garboards should fit in my scarf box (I hope).

Clamps are also on list.

My 2nd strake, for the keel version was a twist and bend. I was pleased in that it adjusted nicely. I first had it in the wooden clamps and bar clamps for a while before gluing. I think time is needed to help adjust to bends. Maybe not, but it was a cold day and could not glue, so I just let her lay it the clamps. I like Hydrotek, for what we're doing its great stuff.
