I remember seeing an article in one of the sailing magazines in the last few issues that had a classic sailboat that had been re-rigged with modern line and some modern blocks - i.e. Vectran or similar into Carbo blocks that were somehow fitted to the existing bronze jib lead or mainsheet tracks.

That's probably not an accurate description and I don't know any more than that because I was going to read the article later....

Hopefully someone else saw it and did a better job of saving/remembering :o

I used some high tech cordage for my main halyard hoist, carefully tied to a standard braid fall when the old wire spliced to rope halyard started to suffer. Its is absolutely fine. Just be careful of one thing - the weight of the braid is much heavier than the weight of the high tech cord. This imbalance resulted in the whole caboodle firing itself through the masthead sheave and the shackle to attach to the main lodging itself at the masthead 50' above the deck. Great fun for the person who let it go.:D

12mm braid is a lot easier on the hands than 5 mm hi tech; and works better on the winch.
