Hey, remember the thread I posted in March about Rollie Johnson and the Lutheran Church group in Fargo that was building the fleet of 27' Voyageur canoes?

Building started on Feb 11th and they dedicated the finished fleet at the church on July 11th.

Who would'a thought that the next big brigade of Voyageurs would be Lutherans??? There must be a Garrison Keillor story in there somewhere.... Can you imagine how cool it would be to be sitting in your Grumman on a lake in the Boundry Waters eating a granola bar and to see these four boats and sixty paddlers come around the point? Good Show Rollie!

Rig nets! Load the larboard cannon with grape! Stand by to repel boarders! There's not a moment to be lost! ;)

There will be many great adventures in those boats. Fortunately for me the BW no longer allows groups that large.

It's a sad day in Lake Woebegone. I don't know how it started. It was such a promising idea, such a fantastic possibility for Lutheran fellowship. The Lutheran Lady's Auxiliary decided to drive enmasse to Fargo to use the Voyageur canoes built by the Lutherans in Fargo. You see where the fellowship idea comes in, don't you?

If only Arlene Knutsen and Dotty Larsen hadn't brought Tuna Hot Dish made to the same recipe. And why on earth Pastor Lundquist couldn't keep his mouth shut, I'll never understand it.

And, oh how I wish things had been different and Arlene and Dotty hadn't been in the same canoe.

Fifteen members of the Lady's Auxiliary in their Lutheran outing finery. The nearest Coast Guard station was too far away. And the Sheriff's boat was in Ollie Petersen's shop waiting on a part that had been back ordered since May.

It's a sad day in Lake Wobegone.

...and by the next morning the only trace of the auxiliary and the canoes were the drag marks down to the water and one high heel shoe stuck in the mud, size 14 black patent leather(left)....
