Got home on Saturday, and discovered that the neighbor kids who (very kindly) were chicken/rabbit/cat sitting for us somehow accidentally closed the door to the bathroom which holds the catbox. Spent the next little while finding gifts (wrapped up in the blanket which acts as a slipcover for Rick's recliner, or deposited on the tissue paper from the gift wrap collection, etc.) and puddles (the basket which displays my good towels).

We retrieved the dog from the kennel on Sunday, and found her and her bedding to be freshly washed - - because apparently she had the same problem, albeit with less excuse. Maybe a stress reaction or something, but that doesn't explain why she did it again in her kennel last night.

On the plus side, the the only thing possibly beyond salvage is that twig towel basket, which was itself sitting on tile. No rugs were insulted, for which I'm profoundly greatful.

FWIW, the chickens and rabbit were on their best behavior. And the cats were doing their feline best to observe proper manners as they saw it. The dog, OTOH, has no excuse beyond her own age-enfeebled mind. Good thing she's cute.

My one critter, Catawumpous, is quite continent over fair periods of time. She's got a box, which I keep pretty clean(easy) but she hasn't used it in a year. She will more as the season turns, and I need to refresh it. I wonder somtimes if there might not be a suprise in the back of a kitchen cabinet somewhere, but I doubt it. She's pretty insistent when she want's out, and isn't averse to the box.

Remarkable, beautiful, relationships we build with our animals. It takes time, but they speak to us. In their body language, in their voices, in their eyes. This one, being a cat, is pretty userous. Winning a cat over isn't easy. But, quite often now that I've been generous and gentle with her for a year, she'll surrender.
