Damn you Skuthorp! It is just finally getting chilly here in Massachusetts. And cricket looks cool but I don't understand the rules--I hear about it on the BBC, "testmatches" and "wickets" but still can't figure it out. I hope you have a good summer, down there :-)

First time for years I haven't been able to watch a single ball due to pressure of (different) work. Just the occasional glance at Cricinfo.
A bit early to be making predictions? Poms strangely silent, aren't they?

Er, well, it's a very flat pitch....

Maybe just starting to turn, but not much.

Can't make any excuses for Harmison, though.

Not Monty's pitch, anyway.

OK Shamus, I will stick my neck out and say that I reckon we can avoid the follow on.

Ricky Ponting's going to have to decide when to call it; this won't be too easy and I expect he will play it safe and go later rather than sooner.

So I reckon we are still good for a draw.

I think it might go 5 days, anyway, which will be a bit of a change..

So, that's 355 for six wickets needed to avoid the follow on...and when we do follow on, Australia may not need to bat again.

Er, well, its only the first Test...
