If Borders is going to donate profits......why sell it at all?

It was being published by ReganBooks, a HarperCollins imprint owned, like the Fox network, by News Corp.
Ahhh, that explains it.

“I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project,” said Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairman. “We are sorry for any pain that this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.”

"any" pain?? Ya think??

Cee-rist! That's letting themselves off pretty easy.

It's currently #46, despite the cancelation. In terms of actual numbers, what would that be? 200,000 copies?

For the publishing industry, the cancellation of "If I Did It" was an astonishing end to a story like no other. Numerous books have been withdrawn over the years because of possible plagiarism, most recently Kaavya Viswanathan's "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life," but a book's removal simply for objectionable content is virtually unheard of.

Sales had been strong, but not sensational. "If I Did It" cracked the top 20 of Amazon.com last weekend, but by Monday afternoon, at the time its cancellation had been announced, the book had fallen to No. 51.

Some other "Publishing Whore" will pick it up. Judy Regan has made a living publishing tripe. Harper Collins is one of the premier houses in the industry. They should toss Regan out.

And some television network will package something and get it on the air.

What a sick bastard.

Hm. I fear Donn is right. But it's encouraging.

This is salient. Why do the media publish what they do? When I was a kid it was understood by the moguls that there were limits. I mean some crude things came through the Three Stooges, but there were also limits.

I remember being shocked at fourteen being told by my just back from college brother to go to hell. I mean seriously offended. I didn't grow up completely isolated, but you didn't say that to people when I was thirteen.

Now...

Why hasn't O.J. had a little accident?

Heck, the man still gets invited to celebrity golf tournaments, and in the photos they show he usually has some gorgeous woman hanging off of him. Who knows why people do what they do?

Why hasn't O.J. had a little accident?

He hasn't visited Amityville.

There are no limits anymore.

None.

I think old Rupert had to deal with a staff uprising within the Fox Network. Maybe there are still journalistic scruples? But Fox?

And 'good on ya' to the people at Fox who put the kibosh on this fiasco, but what do you think would have happened in the days of the 'old' Fox, back when wrestling was their forte, that and the Simpsons?

I am still thinking that this scoundrel makes some money out of this deal. He should be a pariah.

This really bothers me.
