Seems like I only wander over here when I am desparate which I now am.

Anyone know where I can get metric 4x20 flathead wood screws in stainless?

I picked up a box of really nice polished stainless butt hinges for my cabinet doors. The problem is they are countersunk for metric flathead screws. Regular #8 screws stand a little proud so the hinge will not close flat. Thus far I have been grinding the heads down and repolishing them but that takes time and I need about 150 screws.

Sounds to me that countersinking the hinges a little deeper would be better, easier, faster and cheaper.

Try "All Stainless" in Whitman MA. If you type "All Stainless Inc." into the seach thingy of Google you will find the Thomas Register site which has All Stainless and lot more sources.

I agree. smile.gif Countersink in the drillpress and you will be able to do a very clean job.

McMaster is always the first place I look but no metric wood screws and enlarging the countersink will break over the edge of the hinge.

The only neat solution is to get metric screws or grind and polish the standard ones. I will try All Stainless in the morning.

Another source to try for stainless steel metric screws is Anchor Staple & Nail in Wakefield, Rhode Island. They specialize in stainless steel fasteners so there's at least some chance that they would have stainless steel metric wood screws. I've purchased stainless steel staples for pneumatic staple guns from them and they were very pleasant to deal with. They have a web site at http://www.anchorsssn.com/ but it is mostly useful for getting their phone number and other contact information because it is a pretty minimal site.

If you get really stuck, these folks will have them. Wrong side of the Atlantic but they supply most boatbuilders in the eastern counties of England.

I can't imagin why a US supplier would stock metric wood screws. In 35 years in the woodworking trade I've never seen any. Importing them may be your only choice.

Have you tried # 7's? they may be just enough smaller to set down in flush. They aren't the normal Big Box item either, but a good fastener supplier should have them.
