I know this isn't straight building/repair-oriented, but...

I just "happened" to buy all of the tools and equipment of a boatbuilding shop (And yes, I'm bragging about it whenever I can) :D

One of the gems that was found in the pile was an old marine head "A.B. Sands&Sons Co. New York".

What can you tell about it? There is a lid for the head as well, split but repairable. I am dreaming of putting that one for the future "dreamboat of mine", but as it probably takes fifteen years to go, I'm not sure wether I would keep it or not.

What might be the value of the head? What's the history of the company?

I think that Sands became part of Wilcox-Crittenden (http://www.wilcoxcrittenden.com/)
They have parts for old heads. The critical dimension is the bore of the pump. The head shown looks like an earlier version of the 'Winner' model.

Yep, Jim's right. Actually, I'd guess from the pic that it is a Sands model that is closer to the Wilcox Crittenden "Imperial 51." Reconditioning kits are (or used to be) available from WC. Figure she's worth somewhere around $1,500 new, I think. Built to last and worth reconditioning.

I was so fond of my old Winner, and tired of trying to keep paint on it (sheer nonsense), that I had it chromed.
What lunacy this is!

I have a w/c Skipper, which is like the Winner but a little bit smaller. The bronze on mine is cast, not anywhere near as nicely machined as in the picture above. I've only had to paint it once in 12 years. But a chrome toilet. Now there's something no one else in the yard would have.
