Thinking again this afternoon ... about the (political) calls folks are receiving ... why doesn't every register on the DNC list ... as in Do Not Call list?
Think of all the phone calls it would eliminate.
While you're at, how about the Do Not Mail list ...
It is very easy.

Are you kidding? How did that happen?
What a load of crap that little loophole is ...
It is telephone marketing/advertising! That sucks.
Sorry, I was trying to be helpful.

I happen to agree with you. The roomate and I leave the fax machine on. I figure it's suitable punishment.

I always found it amusing that the people who are responsible for the "do not call" legislation exempted themselves.

They exempted themselves from a LOT of things...

I'm getting a lot of calls from "The Liberman Research Agency", and as much as I tell them to remove me from their call list, they keep calling back. I think telemarketers are trying to hide behind the exemptions in the law.

Let's see I had a call from Bill Clinton ,Sheldon WhiteHouse,Ted Kennedy and some smoke signals from the Casino Indians. My Dad has been amswering the phone and just hanging upon them. Not to mention being stuck behind a convoy of political advertisement vehicles doing 25 in a 35.They even had a flatbed trailer with 6 orso adults on it with a couple of children about 12 y.o.It was about 40 degrees.Looked cold dangerous to me.It was being towed be a dump truck that could not see the passengers. There were 6 no 5.....,I'll be glad when it's over.I should have built that machine that dials and plays recordings.I'd be richmonetarily.:D

I wonder if a prohibition on calls from political candidates, or some sort of do not call list that applied to such calls, might run afoul of free speech rights. For obvious reasons, the free speech protections for political speech are particularly strong -- free speech about one's government is at the heart of democracy.

Checked on the Do Not Call List recently due to an overload of auto recording calls and was told that the Feds took this over sometime ago and do nothing.

What I truly love about these calls is, the caller always starts off with, " We are going to send you... "

I had a recent experience with a recorded message telling me to call a 1-800 number for important information. These calls came 2-3 times a day. Every number I have, or ever had, is on the Do Not Call List.
I finally called the 1-800 number and when the woman answered, I demanded her name, her company name, her supervisor's name and their mailing address. When she asked why, I explained I was filing an FCC complaint and that she HAD TO supply the requested info. She then told me she would be happy to give me the info but first I had to answer a few questions. Talk about Gall! I refused and again demanded the info. She got snotty. I stayed insistent. She finally provided some information - doubt it was correct.
I did file the complaint on line.
The short of it, I have never heard from them again. Should have called sooner - I put up with an answering machine full of messages for months.
