Have any of you made keel bolts from tobin bronze prop shafts?

I have been thinking about it...

I've seen it done many, many times. In fact, I'd guess there are more bronze keel bolts that started life as prop shafts than not! Ditto for monel.

Those would be some REALLY stout keelbolts, no?

Most shafts I've seen that are of sufficient length to be keelbolts are at least 50% thicker than I would think necessary.

Not that there's anything wrong with wicked stout keelbolts. I'm just throwing a thought on the fire.

Thad: where do you get bronze prop shaft's? My design calls for one, but I have been unable to locate a source.

The shop that made my shaft outside of philly could make shafts in alumnium bronze for twice the price.
