I'm getting ready to re-seat the 865 lb. cast iron keel up into my 1947 Star. It took the previous owner three months and many scraped knuckles to saw out the old sealant. Even with all ten bolts loosened, the keel didn't release until only about eight inches of the five-foot keel were left holding. He is recommending a very low adhesive sealant. I'd sure appreciate some advice.

The keel bolts will hold the keel. You don't need an adhesive also.

The disadvantages of using adhesive where it is not needed should be apparent to you at this point. ;)

Now you've discovered why you don't want to use 5200 on anything that you might conceivably need to take apart some day.
